The biggest retired LEGO® sets: what makes them special

The six biggest retired LEGO® sets we have in stock range from 2,651 pieces to 10,001, led by the Eiffel Tower (10307), which stands nearly five feet tall. All six have left LEGO’s shelves, and each is special for a different reason: a record-setting height, a Disney anniversary, a working Harry Potter vault track, a modular anniversary build, an app-controlled crane and a mechanical arcade cabinet. Below is what each set is, when it was on sale and what to check before buying a large retired set.
The short answer
- The biggest: the Eiffel Tower (10307), with 10,001 pieces and a height of over 149 cm (58.5 in.), on sale November 2022 to July 2026.
- Most minifigures: Gringotts Wizarding Bank, Collectors’ Edition (76417), with 13. The Eiffel Tower and Liebherr crane have none.
- Earliest retirement: the Disney Castle (43222), on September 30, 2024. Highest original price: the Liebherr crane (42146), at $699.99.
- Before buying: check every factory seal and the box condition, add shipping insurance, and plan for extras such as the crane’s 12 AA batteries.

Eiffel Tower and Disney Castle: the display giants
Eiffel Tower (10307)
The Eiffel Tower is the largest set here by a wide margin. LEGO gives its size as over 149 cm (58.5 in.) high, 57 cm (22.5 in.) wide and 57 cm deep. When it launched in November 2022, The Brothers Brick called it the tallest LEGO set ever, with the second-highest piece count at the time, behind the 31203 World Map mosaic.
The model is built in four sections, following the way the real tower was assembled. It includes the landscaped Esplanade with lamp posts and benches, three observation platforms, lifts with cabling, Gustave Eiffel’s private office at the top and a broadcast tower with the French flag. The sections separate for moving, and LEGO added carrying handles. There are no minifigures.
Brickset notes it is a re-imagined version of 10181, the 2007 Eiffel Tower. It was a LEGO exclusive, sold from November 25, 2022, and Brickset lists its exit as July 31, 2026.
Disney Castle (43222)
The Disney Castle was released in July 2023 as part of LEGO’s Disney 100 range. Its 4,837 pieces build a multi-level castle drawn from several Disney Princess films, with a spinning dance floor in the ballroom, a fireplace that rotates to reveal the spinning wheel from Sleeping Beauty, and a time capsule marking 100 years of Disney films.
It includes eight minifigures: Cinderella, Prince Charming, Snow White, Prince Florian, Tiana, Prince Naveen, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. LEGO gives its size as over 80 cm (31.5 in.) high, 59 cm (23 in.) wide and 33 cm (13 in.) deep. Brickset notes it is a re-imagined version of set 71040, and lists its exit date as September 30, 2024, the earliest retirement of the six.
Gringotts and the Boutique Hotel: story-packed buildings
Gringotts Wizarding Bank, Collectors’ Edition (76417)
Gringotts has the most minifigures of the six: 13, of which Brickset counts 11 as unique to this set. LEGO lists two Harry Potter figures, Ron Weasley, Bellatrix Lestrange/Hermione Granger, Hagrid, a Death Eater, Bogrod, Griphook, Ricbert, two goblins and two guards.
The build stacks three models: the bank’s foyer and mezzanine, a spiraling vault track with a cart that stops at each of three vaults (including Bellatrix’s vault, which hides a surprise), and a posable Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon with room for three minifigures on its back. A small Magical Menagerie shop is included too. The bank section alone is over 36 cm (14.5 in.) high, and LEGO says the three models combined are over 75 cm (29.5 in.) high. It connects to 75978 Diagon Alley.
Gringotts launched in September 2023 as a LEGO exclusive. Brickset lists its exit as July 31, 2026, and StoneWars named it among the three largest exclusive sets in that midyear retirement wave.
Boutique Hotel (10297)
The Boutique Hotel was released in January 2022 to celebrate 15 years of the LEGO Modular Buildings collection. LEGO describes it as inspired by turn-of-the-century European architecture, with unusual triangular geometry, a domed roof with a skylight, and hidden tributes to earlier modular buildings.
Its 3,066 pieces build guest rooms, a penthouse suite, a lobby, a terrace and staircase, plus a neighboring art gallery and coffee cart. The seven minifigures, including a porter, receptionist, coffee vendor and gallery owner, are all unique to this set according to Brickset. For modular collectors it fills a specific spot in a long-running series. Brickset lists its exit as December 31, 2025.
Liebherr crane and PAC-MAN: sets that move
Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 (42146)
The Liebherr crane had the highest original price of the six at $699.99. LEGO gives its size as over 99 cm (38 in.) high, 110 cm (43 in.) long and 28 cm (11 in.) wide, and called it one of the largest models in the LEGO Technic range as of August 2023.
It is motorized. Two smart hubs and six large motors are included, and the CONTROL+ app drives the tank steering, rotating turntable, luffing jib, winch and load sensing. Twenty-four weight elements provide over 2 lb (0.9 kg) of counterweight. Plan for 12 AA batteries, which are not included. Brickset lists it from August 2023 to December 31, 2025.
PAC-MAN Arcade (10323)
The PAC-MAN Arcade recreates the classic 1980s cabinet in 2,651 pieces. It has a 4-way joystick, a coin slot that lights up, an adjustable score display and a hand-cranked mechanical maze that simulates the chase between PAC-MAN and the ghosts. Open the back panel to see the mechanism.
The set also includes a small 1980s arcade scene with a gaming minifigure and a display case with PAC-MAN, BLINKY and CLYDE figures. LEGO gives the cabinet’s size as over 32 cm (12.5 in.) high, 25 cm (10 in.) wide and 17 cm (7 in.) deep. It was a LEGO exclusive from June 2023, and Brickset lists its exit as July 31, 2026.
What to check before buying a large retired set
Big retired sets are an expensive purchase, and boxes this size are more exposed to damage in storage and transit. Before you buy, check:
- The seals. Look at every factory seal on the box and confirm none has been cut, lifted or replaced. Some large sets ship with smaller boxes inside the outer box: The Brothers Brick reported three inner boxes in the Eiffel Tower.
- Box condition. Ask for photos of all sides and corners. Dents, crushed corners and shelf wear matter more to some collectors than others, so decide what you will accept before you pay.
- Size and weight. The Eiffel Tower’s outer box measured about 15 by 18 by 22.5 in., according to The Brothers Brick. Brickset lists the Boutique Hotel at 3.47 kg (7.65 lb). Large boxes need proper outer packaging, not just tape and a label.
- Shipping insurance. For a set that can no longer be replaced at retail, insurance is worth having. Our checkout offers shipping insurance on rare and retired sets.
- Extras you will need. The Liebherr crane needs 12 AA batteries. Also plan where a set will go: the Eiffel Tower stands nearly five feet tall.
Tip: Each set’s page shows its current price and stock. If you have a question about a set, use the “Ask about this set” button on its page and we will reply.
